As the successor to the 123 model series, the new mid-range model generation, which was launched on the market in December 1984, also enjoyed great popularity. The overall technical design was based heavily on the Compact class; the use of high-strength sheet steel panels and other weight-reducing materials also resulted in a significant reduction in fuel consumption in the new models. A completely revised mid-range model series was presented at the IAA - the world's largest international motor show in Frankfurt am Main in Germany - in September 1989. In October 1990, this was followed by the 500 E, a new top model in the 124 model series followed, which featured a 5.0-litre V8 four-valve engine with an output of 326 hp. The exclusive model was produced in cooperation with Porsche. Clearly, the 500 E Saloon W 124 should not be missing from any collection, even as a 1:18 scale miniature model. After all, the precision model, which is hand-assembled from more than 128 individual parts, creates a faithful copy of all the interior details and makes it possible to open six parts (doors, bonnet and boot lid). The Saloon, with a painting finish in the authentic colour shade, is delivered in a Mercedes-Benz Classic packaging that comes with a screwdriver as well as a glove for removing the model.
