The year 1959 marked a turning point in the history of Mercedes-Benz because that year saw the introduction of a completely revised range of cars. Under the motto "The new six cylinder – A class of its own", three entirely redesigned models – the 220 b, 220 Sb and 220 SEb – were launched as successors to the previous cylinder models. What all models had in common was the extremely spacious and elegant body, which stood out mainly thanks to the distinctive tail fin – a design feature that would characterise the name for an entire model generation. The new model series also set new standards in terms of safety – for example, it was the first vehicle to have a passenger compartment with front and rear crumple zone. The models also featured a padded instrument panel and a padded steering wheel boss as well as the wedge-pin door locks used for the first time in this form. Between 1959 and 1968, the Sindelfingen plant produced a total of 344,751 saloons and chassis of the model series 111 and 112, which the hand-assembled precision model in die-cast zinc with plastic parts recreates. Authenticity is written large in the miniature model: The model not only has paintwork in the authentic colour shade, but also features a faithful representation of all details in the finely decorated and flocked interior. The model has six opening parts (doors, bonnet and boot lid). The 1:18 model is supplied in Mercedes-Benz Classic packaging and includes a screwdriver and a glove. This allows you to remove model from its packaging without leaving fingermarks on the windows or body.
